iOS Training

While iOS (iPhones and iPads) is simple to use, there’s a lot of features that many people never use because they don’t know about them. Some folks figure it out eventually or discover features accidentally by themselves but this is far from the best way to get the most out of your idevice. Here are just a few things you can learn in my courses.

Do you know the shortcut to get to the top of most any page in an app on your iPad?
Did you know you can split the keyboard to make typing with your thumbs easier?
How about changing what apps are searched in spotlight search?
Do you know how to easily switch between running applications?
Did you know you can access some keys such as the apostrophe and double quotes without hitting the shift key?

You can learn all these and many more when you take one of the iOS training courses from me.

Apple gives you some basic apps for you idevice to get you started. You should be familiar with and know how to use these.

Getting the basics set up; Messages, Mail, Notes, Reminder, Calendar, and Contacts
Surfing the internet with Safari
Photography and video apps; Camera, Photos, Facetime, Video, YouTube, Photo Booth
Music and more; iTunes, Music, iBooks, and Newsstand

There are many apps in a variety of categories which can help you get the most out of your iDevice. They range from business and productivity apps to health, fitness, news, sports and games and more.

How to find apps on the App Store
Determining what apps would be most useful in the dock (did you know you can have up to 6 and not just 4 apps in the dock?).
Place the most commonly used apps on the first screen. This is the one you get to by clicking once on the home button to get to the home screens and then again to get to the first of the 11 screens.
Apps to store documents in the cloud such as DropBox, Box.net and Google Drive.
How to do dictation even if you don’t own the iPhone 4s or the new iPad.

There are quite a few features of iPhone and iPad that are not obvious. Here are a few.

Hold down on an icon until it jiggles and then drag it on top of another icon to make a folder.
Within Settings -> General -> Keyboard there is a place to enter Shortcuts for any phrases you may use on a routine basis such as text shorthand or an email address.
This icon means you can share that information with the services (such as print, email, tweet) that appear when you click on this icon.
To delete multiple photos at a time on your iPad go to Photos and then select the photos tab. Then click on the share icon and a grayed out red delete button appears towards the upper left hand corner. Now select the photos you want to get rid of and then hit the delete button.
You can hold down the volume switch for about a second and mute the sound.
