Update: This post applies to iOS 6. Apple changed how to access videos in iOS 7 (iOS 8 is the same) making it more logical in my opinion. Just launch Photos and go to the album view. There should be an album labelled video if you have taken any video with your device.

Recently my mom wanted to show me a video she took on her iPhone. She couldn’t find a place to view just the videos on her iPhone. She knew she had seen a place to view just videos before but couldn’t remember how she got there. After some tinkering around, I finally figured out how. It isn’t entirely obvious either so I thought I’d share how to do it.

If you think you could just go into the Photos app and choose Videos from the tabs at the top (this is what my mom tried to do) you would discover it’s not there. However, if you launch the Camera app and click on the icon in the bottom left corner it will take you to a screen that looks very similar to the one in Photos app but with one difference. There is now a tab that says Video.

Since its easier to just show you than to describe how to do it, here’s a video describing this.

Here’s the steps to take to view just your videos on your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Launch the Camera app.
  2. Click on the gallery icon in the lower left hand corner.
  3. If you see a photo, then click on the Camera Roll in the upper left hand corner to get back to the gallery.
  4. Click on the tab Video and you will see just the videos on your iOS device.

This doesn’t work on my iPhone 6 (8.4.1)

Neither my Iphone or my Ipad show a gallery or options as your video shows. both only show an icon that takes me to the full gallery (no tabs) or the last photo viewed of taken. sure wish I could find the videos

Hi Beverly. Which iOS are you using? Apple changed things around when they introduced iOS 7. This is an older video done in iOS 6 I think. I’ve added a note to the post so others will know this is different in the most recent version of iOS. I’ll look into updating this video.

In iOS 7 you can see the video within your Photos app. Launch Photo and then click on Albums in the lower righthand corner and you should see an album label Videos. It’s the same in iOS 8. Hope this helps.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the tutorial. Maybe I should do a tutorial on how I make tutorials.

Basically, I use two pieces of software to make this happen. First, I use Reflector to get the iPad (or iPhone) screen to show up on my Mac. Then I use ScreenFlow to capture the video and edit it.
